So yesterday I GRADUATED from the University of Warwick with a BA (Hons) in Social Studies, my final grade being a 2:1. The day started with pampering myself. I’d booked myself in to have my hair and nails done and a few days before I treated myself to a full body massage and a facial. It was a great way to start the day. Myself, John (my husband) and Faith (my daughter) met my mum and dad and my friends Sarah and Lenny at the University. We had loads of photos taken together with me in my cap and gown. My brother, his wife and daughter turned up later in the day for a few photos too. The atmosphere at University was amazing, it was an absolutely pleasure to graduate with some of the people I started my degree with.
The ceremony itself was a bit surreal to be honest and in the gown it was slightly warm in the Butterworth Hall. I only had 2 tickets that my dad and husband had, so my mum, Faith, Sarah and Lenny watched on one of the tv screens. There was no way Faith would have sat through the ceremony anyway and I wouldn’t have put her through that. She had a great time running around mummy’s ‘big school’, which she says she’s going to go to when she’s older!
In the evening CLL had a graduation celebration at the sports pavilion, it was a lovely setting, which my family and friends where also able to enjoy. We had a lovely hog roast, Faith danced most of the time she was there (I think I probably really do need to start booking those dancing lessons she’s been asking for), while we had a couple of drinks, something to eat and enjoyed celebrating with all the other CLL students, their families and friends.
Wednesday 19th July 2017 will be a day that stays with me forever; the day I graduated with a 2:1 at the University of Warwick… Something I never thought would ever happen… me do a degree, lol, I’m not clever enough! Haha, well I guess I have to say now that I am clever enough to do a degree! The start of my journey into a new career isn’t starting just yet. My MA in Social Work starts in September 2017, so I now have a few more years of studying before I can start to earn some money. To be honest part of me wishes I had a full time job to start now, however, it won’t get me to where I want to go, so another 2 years of studying starts very soon. Considering the last 4 years have flown by another 2 years is nothing and I’ll soon be able to say I’m graduating from the University of Warwick with a masters in Social Work, lol. Then, I will be able to start my career as a social worker. So for now I’ll enjoy the summer with John and Faith.
So, that is it, this is my last blog. I hope you have enjoyed reading some of my blogs and realised that if a dyslexic mother, wife and full time student can achieve a degree so can YOU! Go for it, I can promise you, you won’t be disappointed and one day you can walk to the front of Butterworth Hall on your graduation day and collect your certificate! I wish you all the best in your degrees and enjoy the experience!
